Vinyl, LP, in illustrated sleeve; approx. 31.5 × 31.5 cm sleeve size. Limited edition of 300 copies.

Edition Lebeer-Hossmann in cooperation with Dieter Roth’s Verlag

The subtitle “Autonom-dialogische Thematik” suggests that the content involves dialogues or conversational material, likely autonomous in some sense (perhaps spontaneous, unscripted).

The LP was “produced during a painting session with Arnulf Rainer.” That indicates the recording perhaps captures part of their collaborative process, possibly including speech, ambient sound, painting noises, etc.

It belongs to the collaborative series Misch- und Trennkunst of Roth & Rainer. This was a line of work where both artists engaged in mixing and dividing art forms, media, processes — often combining visual, auditory, performative elements.

Ratio Konditio, 1979

(also called Ratio-Konditio Gespräch, or “Hart ins Gericht – Zart ins Gesicht”)

The work is a collaborative work by Dieter Roth and Arnulf Rainer, recorded on 17 March 1979 in Vienna. It was published as a 7-inch single (“Single”) by Edition Lebeer Hossmann, under “Dieter Roth’s Verlag.” Limited edition of 500 copies.

The tracks are titled: Side A “Hart ins Gericht” and Side B “Zart ins Gesicht”. Duration: Side one ~ 03:51, Side two ~ 03:53.

The recording is a kind of dialogue / spoken interview, with Roth and Rainer discussing their exhibition of the group ‘Ratio-Konditio’ in Vienna. It includes “extraneous noises,” ambient/interruption sounds, perhaps musical and non-musical fragments.
