23 documents classée von Sarkis was produced as an artist's book in Hamburg in 1972. Sarkis' original consisted of 23 short texts written in green ink on lightweight DIN A4 cardboard and an audio tape that Paul Lebeer and Herbert Hossmann picked up at Sarkis's studio. At the time, Sarkis was working at the Sonnabend Gallery, was friends with Boltanski, and had already been invited by Szeemann to participate in the exhibition attitudes get form at the Kunsthalle Bern and then at documenta 5.
