• It’s a conceptual photographic work — Suter photographed 158 people she met during her travels (26 June 1973 – 14 April 1974). Each portrait is made with the sitter posed with a slate (blackboard) on which Suter wrote the date, name of the person, and place of encounter; this information is visible in the photographs. • The project belongs to Suter’s early, more conceptual phase (prior to the later large-scale, nature-entangled painting she is known for).
